Non-profit podcast

The Ignite Seattle Podcast was a podcast where I interviewed public speakers about their area of expertise. I lived in a small apartment at the time and there was an ongoing joke that I recorded the intros from my closet. It wasn’t actually a joke though, it was the quietest place in the apartment!

Each podcast guest had previously spoken at an Ignite Seattle event where they gave a 5-minute talk. The talks – and the guests – were funny, interesting, emotional, and sometimes all three!

My responsibilities included:

  • Creating a communications schedule for the podcast and interviews to ensure I could release one each week.
  • Finding compelling talks from Ignite Seattle’s archives that would make the basis for an entertaining podcast episode.
  • Researching guests and their subjects ahead of time so I could prepare a list of probing questions.
  • Interviewing the guests in person with audio equipment.
  • Editing the interviews with Adobe Audition to smoothen any rough edges such as boring bits, ums and ahs.
  • Updating the Ignite Seattle website with WordPress whenever a new episode was released.

Here’s one of my favorite episodes where I spoke to Kaila Yi about her talk “Dating tips from a former dominatrix.”
